Here’s a piece I’ve been working on for a little while now, 22x28” oil on canvas, and I think I’m close on calling it- he struggle that presented itself with this one has been purely value related. How light or dark something is refers to its value- and, in this painting, the key for me was to get the light effect of a peek of sun hitting the water and creating a brilliant spot of light, almost centered in the painting. And in order for one thing to look bright, another has to be dark. But you lose the effect of atmosphere and distance if things get too dark, so there has been a dance occurring with me getting the Environment dark enough to show off the light, but light enough to have some air between us and the view. There may be more tweaks coming, but the majority is set I think!
